Fact 1: ‘Rubber duck debugging’ is a programming technique whereby a programmer explains their code, line by line, to a rubber duck. The idea is that in explaining it they will eventually figure out what the problem is.

Fact 2: In the same way, a lot of ordinary non-programming problems can be solved by talking them over with a friend, even if said friend does not actually know that much about the topic/situation and can’t contribute much to the conversation.

Fact 3: When you thank said friend for helping you solve your problem, and they reply “I didn’t really say anything”, it is very inadvisable to take the opportunity to tell them about Fact 1. No matter how interesting a comparison it may seem at the time.

Alternate advice: If you ask a friend to be your rubber duck explicitly, often results are much better.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t understand why that would be upsetting. Listening is an act of love in itself

I think it’s just a case of how you frame it. What I understood from OP was “don’t imply to your friend that they could be replaced by an inanimate rubber duck and it would be just as helpful”

Image is tweet from @ coribush which reads:

“I testified in front of Congress about nearly losing both of my children during childbirth because doctors didn’t believe my pain.

Republicans got more upset about me using gender-inclusive language in my testimony than my babies nearly dying.

Racism and transphobia in America.”

End image description

________

I’m so tired of Republicans. I’m so tired of their hate and small mindedness and the fact that they complain about all the “liberal snowflakes” who can’t handle anything and bemoan the end of “free speech” because of “cancel culture” but then pull THIS SHIT.

pay attention to who gets upset, especially at those that people think are their progressive favs

“Birthing People?” Yeah, surprisingly there are people who can give birth

“But why sre you smearing bio-women to virtue signal to trans women?” There are “bio-women” who cant give birth. Where was this “virtue signaling” to trans women?

“Why cant we rise together?” You the only one throwing down other women. You are the one throwing her out,why not rise up with her? Ah,because you only care about rising up with the people you like

“Your language is creepy” Is birthing creepy now?

“You are gashlighting” who? About what? About saying there are people who can hive birth?

“What you are doing is dangerous” she almost lost her children, and you are hung up about “birthing people”?

“im empathetic about your painful and unfairly traumatic experience” thats bulshit,no you sre not. She tells you about almodt losing her children anf you get pissy about language. For you, language is more important than two lifes. Fuck off

Wow. Rose McGowan is transphobic, racist pure trash. She has NO RIGHT AT ALL to tell a black woman how to speak about her own experiences.

one time a dude came into the pet store I worked at and bought nine dollars worth of dog treats with a 100 dollar bill that had clearly been made from green construction paper. when I hesitated and ran it through all the methods of testing we had (it failed all of them) he asked for my manager. she had been shitty with me all morning, and came to the register in a huff, grabbed it from me, slammed it in the register and told me to “just do my job.” this dude and I are looking at each other, both of us 100% aware that he’s getting 90 dollars from me in exchange for a piece of construction paper that had been cut a little crooked, and he’s just smiling at me and I’m standing there, overworked and tired, getting paid minimum wage, which, it turns out, is not enough to speak up any further, so I just said fuck it. When I got to work the next day there were cops there to inform us we were the fourth or fifth shop on the road to get hit by the same guy. My manager was going HOGWILD. I just looked at her like

I see (and agree with) your “you’re one bad month away from becoming homeless (so start redirecting your loyalty from billionaires to the working class)” and I raise you a “you’re one accident, one insect sting, one sudden mysterious illness, one virus from becoming permanently disabled (so start redirecting your sympathy from the able-bodied class to the disabled)”.

It’s nearly impossible for a person to reach old age and not be at least mildly disabled. Start caring about disability rights NOW.

You ever think about how old people have no idea what “survivor bias” is, and take full credit for being excellent out of things where they lucked out?

“Back in my day we didn’t have any of these childhood protective things, we were smart enough not to do stupid shit on our own!”
Except your little neighbour, who got the funniest idea at the age of seven, and got his skull pierced when he slipped?

“Back in my day nobody got divorced, we stuck together and fixed our problems!”
What about your cousin, who was slowly killed by her husband because she had nowhere to escape him?

“Back in my day nobody had ‘mental problems’, we didn’t whine, we just toughed it out and endured life!”
Hey remember that guy you used to work with, who seemed really friendly and normal, and then suddenly hanged himself ‘for no reason’?

“Back in my day we didn’t have any of this ‘gay’ or ‘transgender’ thing.”
You did, but your family cut all ties with her before you were born.

You kinda start seeing it in everything they think, if you start looking for it.

“When we were kids nobody whined about car seats or bike helmets. We didn’t use them, and we all survived!”

Yeah, except for the ones who didn’t.

must a fictional relationship be “healthy” or “functional”? is it not enough to simply watch two made up people destroy each other, hand in unlovable hand???

hey what the fuck is wrong with you people

idk, what is wrong with me? i’m in a healthy and stable relationship with a great partner, i’ve had lots of therapy that has helped me establish strong boundaries and recognize red flags, and i have an active social life and fulfilling career. could it be that i just… like to read books and watch movies and tv shows about dysfunctional people??? you tell me, tumblr user girlcreator!

You’re a bourgeois degenerate who wants to see shitty despicable & violent relationships for your disgusting sense of entertainment— and you should feel fucking ashamed of yourself.

I agree with @girlcreator but I definitely know there’s something wrong with you. People like you are a huge red flag to me. Bad vibes, for sure.

can you weirdos just smoke some fucking weed

shakespeare frantically rewriting macbeth’s marriage to be healthy and adjusted becuase no one will ever want to watch the original

reblog if you’re a bourgeois degenerate who wants to see shitty despicable and violent relationships for your disgusting sense of entertainment (and you should feel fucking ashamed of yourself)

I can’t believe those people haven’t read the essay and theory of having a safe space to explore dark thoughts (i.e. fiction)
